Dr. Stewart’s medical journey began with an internship in General Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by seven years of specialized training, including two years dedicated to human gene therapy. He completed his Cardiac Surgery specialization at Columbia University Medical Center, where he later served as an Assistant Professor from 2005 to 2013. During this time, he became a global leader in complex aortic surgery, heart transplants, and ventricular assist device procedures.

In 2013, Dr. Stewart was recruited to lead the Center for Aortic Disease at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. As an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and Medical Director for Mount Sinai International, he expanded global cardiac programs and performed high-profile surgeries worldwide. In 2018, he transitioned to Miami as Chief of Cardiac Surgery, where he developed a premier cardiovascular center serving patients across Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

 

Dr. Stewart’s expertise has been widely recognized, including being featured multiple times on The Dr. Oz Show for his cutting-edge work in heart surgery and cardiovascular advancements. Dr. Mehmet Oz, recently nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), highlighted Dr. Stewart’s influence in the medical field.

Beyond his surgical accomplishments, Dr. Stewart is a prolific researcher with over 75 manuscripts and book chapters to his name. He has been a principal investigator in major clinical trials and continues to push the boundaries of cardiac care by integrating advanced technologies, such as AI, into medicine. A graduate of the Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program and an alumnus of MIT’s AI in Healthcare course, Dr. Stewart remains at the forefront of innovation in heart health.
